Astro Biz: Velvet Moon cabernet sauvignon

IMG_0928Many businesses, products, and places have names rooted in space and astronomy. We’re featuring one every Tuesday on Seattle Astronomy.

Today’s Astro Biz is Velvet Moon cabernet sauvignon. Velvet Moon is part of Trader Joe’s private series of “Trader Moon” wines, which make’s TJ’s a great place to pick up ideas for the Astro Biz column! Velvet Moon retails for about $6.

We wanted to feature a Moon biz this week in recognition of the fact that the full Moon falls on Christmas Day this month. It’s a fairly rare occurrence; the last Christmas full Moon was in 1977, and it won’t happen again until 2034. When you think about it, there’s about a 1-in-29 chance of a full Moon on every given day given the average length of the synodic month–the time between similar lunar phases. So, on average, that’s how often the full Moon should show up on Dec. 25.

So don’t forget to go out and look up on Christmas Day and enjoy the Moon, and maybe a nice glass of wine.
