Astro Biz: Milky Way candy bars

Milky WayMany businesses, products, and places have names rooted in space and astronomy. We’re featuring one every Tuesday on Seattle Astronomy.

This week’s Astro Biz is The Milky Way candy bar. Milky Way is a product of Mars, Incorporated. Its signature candy, the Mars Bar, was named an Astro Biz back in May. These days Milky Way bars come not in just the original, but also in caramel and apple flavors, with dark chocolate, and in a variety of sizes. Frank C. Mars created the Milky Way bar in 1923. What we in the U.S. know as the Milky Way bar is sold as a Mars Bar in much of the rest of the world, where the bar marketed as Milky Way is similar to the U.S. 3 Musketeers, also a Mars product.

We chose the Milky Way bar this week because of Halloween. Did you get a Milky Way bar in your trick-or-treat bag?
