Astro Biz: Mercury Comet

MercuryMany businesses, products, and places have names rooted in space and astronomy. We’re featuring one every Tuesday on Seattle Astronomy.

This week’s Astro Biz is the Mercury Comet. This may well be our first double Astro Biz! The Comet was produced by Mercury every year from 1960–1977, with the exception of 1970. The 1969 models were the last for the brand as a mid-size. It took a year off before being brought Cometback as a compact in 1971.

We’re featuring the Mercury Comet this week because there’s one parked on the street a few blocks away from Seattle Astronomy world headquarters. We’re not car guys, but it appears our nearby Comet is an early ’60s model.
