Astro Biz: Comet cleaner

CometMany businesses, products, and places have names rooted in space and astronomy. We’re featuring one every Tuesday on Seattle Astronomy.

This week’s Astro Biz is Comet cleaner. Comet has been around for a long time; introduced in 1956 by Procter and Gamble, the line was sold to Prestige Brands in 2001. The green powder cleanser is probably the most well known, but the product line includes a variety of other formats.

Comet also was—and maybe still is!—the subject of a children’s song that pointed out that the product makes your mouth turn green, tastes like gasoline, and makes you vomit. We’re not sure who did the product testing to figure that out.
