Astro Biz: Vostok Dumplings

Many businesses, products, and places have names rooted in space and astronomy. We’re featuring one every Tuesday on Seattle Astronomy.

Vostok Dumpling HouseThis week’s Astro Biz is Vostok Dumpling House, with restaurants on Capitol Hill in Seattle and in downtown Tacoma on Commerce Street. Vostok serves Russian food: pelmeni, vereniki, piroshki, salads and soups, including a classic borscht. They offer a variety of sauces to top your menu choice. There’s been some indication that the Seattle restaurant has actually been closed for a few weeks because of a “kitchen emergency,” and its website is down as of this writing. But Astro Biz moves forward!

Vostok gets the nod this week in honor of Yuri’s Night, which is today! On this date in 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to travel to space. The spacecraft on which he flew was the Vostok 1.
